Want to take advantage of the US government's "Cash for Clunkers," now called the Car Allowance Rebate System (CARS) to get up to $4500 for your vehicle? If you live in Texas, you may be able to "stack" a state voucher of up to $3500 to sweeten the deal. Texas has a program called Drive a Clean Machine (DACM). This program is run through the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. Here is a statement from the official state website:
The TCEQ has determined that federal and state statutes and rules do not restrict a purchaser from using both the federal Car Allowance Rebate System (CARS) credit and the Drive a Clean Machine (DACM) voucher in purchasing a replacement vehicle. In all instances where the DACM voucher is part of the sale transaction, all DACM requirements must be met.
To qualify for a DACM voucher you must meet certain requirements.
