A Review of The Jesus Book by Stephen Elkins

What a fantastic little book! "The Jesus Book" by Stephen Elkins is a great children's book. As the cover proclaims, it really is "the ultimate who, what, when, where and why book." It answers practically any question a child may have about the life and basic teachings of Jesus. Each subject is concisely covered in about one page with illustrations and biblical references.

What a great addition this would make to a child's library. For smaller children, a page or two could be incorporated into a bedtime reading ritual. I do not particularly care for the simple illustrations. However, the children seem to like them and I guess that is their target audience. This book also comes with a 30 song cd. It is especially loved by the younger children. It includes classics like "Jesus Loves Me," and "Do Lord." Overall, this is a fantastic little book for the children. I would definitely recommend this for parents, church libraries, grandparents or anyone else reading to a child or providing an older child with reading material.

Cash For Clunkers in Texas

Want to take advantage of the US government's "Cash for Clunkers," now called the Car Allowance Rebate System (CARS) to get up to $4500 for your vehicle? If you live in Texas, you may be able to "stack" a state voucher of up to $3500 to sweeten the deal. Texas has a program called Drive a Clean Machine (DACM). This program is run through the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. Here is a statement from the official state website:

The TCEQ has determined that federal and state statutes and rules do not restrict a purchaser from using both the federal Car Allowance Rebate System (CARS) credit and the Drive a Clean Machine (DACM) voucher in purchasing a replacement vehicle. In all instances where the DACM voucher is part of the sale transaction, all DACM requirements must be met.

To qualify for a DACM voucher you must meet certain requirements.

A Review of Rick & Bubba's Guide to the Almost Nearly Perfect Marriage by Rick Burgess and Bill "Bubba" Bussey

Rick and Bubba are the self-proclaimed "sexiest fat men alive." Why would these two offer advice on marriage? Who better to offer advice on marriage? They realize that marriage is to "teach us how to love an imperfect person perfectly." This book is to give us their insight on their "loving an imperfect person perfectly" and how we can learn from it.

They offer up relationship advice with a generous dose of humor. Some of it flows off the page and hits the mark. Some of it, however, comes off as if reading a stand-up comedian's routine. All-in-all this is a funny book with some sage advice. You do NOT need to be married or about to be in order to appreciate this book. Much of the advice is good for any relationship whether dating, engaged, or married.
